Nursing Schools in Arkansas
Those who’ve never visited or lived in Arkansas often don’t realize what a gem it is until they get thereāit’s something of a ‘best kept secret.’ First of all, it’s called The Natural State for good reason. Natural beauty abounds throughout the state, especially in the lush Arkansas River Valley and the Ozark Mountains, adding to the quality of life, especially if you enjoy the great outdoors. The cost of living here is also wonderfully low, as is characteristic of the Southern states. That means your paycheck will go farther and everyday costs will be lower. Arkansas also happens to be a great place to launch a nursing career. In 2008, nursing education leaders here estimated there were about 3,000 vacant nursing positions in Arkansas, and expected that gerontology nurses and those working in nursing homes and home health care would be in great demand over the next 20 years as the Baby Boomers age. Nurses who are skilled in working with the elderly are increasingly in demand here, particularly because Arkansas is a haven for retirees.
Job opportunities for nurses abound in the state’s hospitals, outpatient clinics, doctor’s offices, nursing homes and home health care agencies. However, the most in-demand jobs in Arkansas are concentrated in and around the more heavily populated areas such as Little Rock, Fayetteville and Hot Springs. Some of the largest and best-known employers of registered nurses in Arkansas include Baptist Health, Inc.; Triad Hospitals, Inc.; and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Those who wish to become nurses in the state can get information about state licensure through the Arkansas State Board of Nursing, and search the board’s website for information about accredited nursing schools in the state. The Arkansas Nurses Association is the professional organization that represents the state’s nurses, and the organization maintains a website where RNs can find continuing education opportunities and keep up to date on issues relevant to nurses.
