Nursing Schools in Colorado
What better place than Colorado to launch a career in nursing? Not only is Colorado one of the most naturally beautiful states in the U.S., but it is widely known as one of the healthiest since such a large proportion of its population takes advantage of the natural beauty to get outdoors and exercise. More good news for nursing job seekers here: Colorado’s unemployment rate was significantly less than the national average in April 2010. Also, there is a greater demand for registered nurses here than in most other states. In fact, Colorado’s nursing shortage is twice the national average, according to the Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence. Colorado was also the third fastest-growing state in the U.S., which means there will need to be even more RNs in the future to help meet the population’s health care needs. Qualified nurses are needed in Colorado’s hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, doctor’s offices, and home health care agencies.
. The most in-demand nursing jobs in Colorado are concentrated in and around the more heavily populated areas, such as Denver, Colorado Springs and Aurora, although you can find solid job opportunities throughout the state. Some of the largest and best-known employers of registered nurses in Colorado include: Centura Health, Exempla Healthcare, the Memorial Health System, and Penrose-St. Francis Health Services. Those who wish to become nurses in the state can get information about state licensure through the Colorado State Board of Nursing (under Colorado’s Department of Regulatory Agencies). The Colorado Nurses Association is the professional organization that represents the state’s nurses, and the association maintains a website where RNs here can search for jobs, and keep up to date on issues relevant to nurses. Somewhat unique to this state is that student nurses can also connect with one another through the Colorado Student Nurses Association.
