Nursing Schools in South Carolina
Southern hospitality is in full swing in South Carolina. In the Palmetto State, residents enjoy balmy weather nearly year round as well as relatively mild winters. For those used to spending their winters in blizzards, the rarity of snow in South Carolina would be a welcome relief. The mountains and coastal plains that dot the landscape all serve as the backdrop for the day-to-day activities of South Carolina residents. The state is also one of the few places where you can see Carolina bays, which are elliptical depressions along the Atlantic seaboard. These are usually marshy or resemble lakes and ponds. They contribute much to the state's biodiversity. Couple these natural wonders with all Southern comforts, such as great barbeque and friendly faces, and it is little wonder why South Carolinians love their state.
One of the biggest industries in the Palmetto State is agriculture. South Carolina is a huge producer of tobacco products, soybeans, and poultry. There is no doubt that out of the many chicken dishes you've enjoyed, many of the birds originally came from farms in South Carolina. Another steady industry is health care. Due to the increasing population as well as the rising number of residents entering their elderly years, the demand for health care professionals like nurses will continue to grow in response. Those looking to enter the nursing career field will find the best job opportunities in heavily populated cities like Charlotte and the surrounding area. In fact, the Charlotte metropolitan area alone employs more than 44% of all the registered nurses in the state. In order to be a registered nurse (RN) in South Carolina, you must obtain a diploma, associate, or bachelor's degree from a nursing program approved by the state Board of Nursing. Then, you must also successfully complete the NCLEX-RN examination to earn a nursing license.
