In April 2010, the unemployment rate in the Equality State was 7.1%, which was 2.8% less than the national unemployment rate at the time. Another fascinating aspect of living in Wyoming is that there are no individual income taxes to be paid. The state does not collect taxes on working income, retirement income, or inheritances, which gives residents more out of every paycheck.

Though agriculture has long played an integral part in Wyoming's economy, today its position as the driving force behind the state's fiscal performance has been replaced by energy production. It is the national leader in coal production, and also one of the top states in terms of natural gas production. Though health care is not one of the top employers, it is still an industry that will grow well into the next decade. This is mainly due to the increasing number of residents reaching retirement and elderly ages, which in turn drives up the need for more health care professionals to address the health issues that are typical with aging. To become a registered nurse (RN) in Wyoming, one must obtain a diploma, associate, or bachelor's degree from an accredited nursing program. Then, prospective nurses must also successfully complete the NCLEX-RN examination to obtain a nursing license before they can begin practicing.
